AMU Student Scholarships

Supporting our students to succeed in college, leadership and life!

The Asociacion de Maestros Unidos is driven by a desire to foment transformative change in our communities through the radical power of education. Oriented by our fight for social justice as educators, we are proud to be a part of this fight in our classrooms and partners in our students' education beyond our classrooms. 

That is why all 600 of our teachers and counselors who choose to be AMU members have given a piece of every one of their paychecks to make these scholarships possible on an annual basis!

The Mario Alcala STEM Scholarship

The Asociación de Maestros Unidos is proud to offer the Mario Alcalá STEM Scholarship to a student who exhibits a strong passion for the STEM fields. Mario Alcalá is a retired educator from Green Dot Public Schools, and served the Lennox community through Animo Leadership for over 20 years. He is also an important figure in our organization for having established and served as the founding President of Green Dot’s Teacher/Counselor Union, the Asociación de Maestros Unidos.

Amount:

  • $1,200

Deadline to Apply:

  • May 1st, 2024

Eligibility Requirements:

  • 2.5 GPA or higher

  • Demonstrable interest in the STEM Fields

  • Current Green Dot Public School CA Student

  • Will be attending a college in the US in 2024-2025

  • Recommender form from a Green Dot teacher/counselor/admin or STEM adviser/leader of an STEM organization/club student participated in) (download here)

The Angela Y. Davis Social Justice Scholarship

The Asociación de Maestros Unidos is proud to offer the Angela Y. Davis Social Justice Scholarship to a student leader who works both in the classroom and in the community to build a better and more just society. AMU recognizes and values the work of our young students for whom social justice is a way of life and a calling. With this scholarship, AMU honors one’s dedication to equality and social justice, pillars of our Union and our evolving, diverse world.

Amount:

  • $1,200

Deadline to Apply:

  • May 1st, 2024

Eligibility Requirements:

  • 2.5 GPA or higher

  • Demonstrable interest in social justice causes, actions and advocacy (pursuing a career in advocacy, member of a social justice themed club on or off campus, volunteer experience at non-profit organizations, participation at protest/rallies, etc.)

  • Current Green Dot Public School CA Student

  • Will be attending a college in the US in 2024-2025

  • Recommender form from a Green Dot teacher/counselor/admin or from an adviser/leader of an organization/club student participated in) (download here)

The Vicente Brambila Visual & Performing Arts Scholarship

The Asociación de Maestros Unidos is proud to offer the Vicente Brambila Visual & Performing Arts (VAPA) Scholarship to a student who is looking to pursue in education in the Visual or Performing Arts after High School. AMU recognizes and values the arts and considers them vital to education and society. With this scholarship, AMU honors one’s dedication to the arts and the role they play in our world.

Amount:

  • $1,200

Deadline to Apply:

  • May 1st, 2024

Eligibility Requirements:

  • 2.5 GPA or higher

  • Demonstrable interest in visual and performing arts (pursuing a career in the arts, member of a visual or performing arts club on or off campus, summer camps in visual or performing arts, participation plays, dances and/or art pieces)

  • Current Green Dot Public School CA Student

  • Will be attending a college in the US in 2024-2025

  • Recommender form from a Green Dot teacher/counselor/admin or from an adviser/leader of an organization/club student participated in) (download here)
