Bargaining Update 4

Hello AMU Members,

Today the AMU Bargaining Committee met with GDPSC to negotiate the contract.  During the meeting we discussed the following:

Evaluation Presentation:

  • Evaluation Committee has recommended the following changes to the CRTF rubric:

    • Changes in language to various problematic indicators

    • Reducing the total number of indicators from 26 to 20

  • The Evaluation Committee has also recommended the following changes to the structure of the evaluation cycle:

    • Reducing indicators for Group 1, 2, and 3 teachers

    • Providing teachers and administrators optional alternatives to informal observation debrief coaching sessions

  • The Evaluation Committee has also proposed the following changes to the formal lesson plan template:

    • Shortening the template to align with the changes to the CRTF rubric

    • Changing the scope and sequence that focuses on the lesson’s place in unit or summative assessment goals.

Compensation:

  • AMU and GDPSC have come to conceptual agreement on MOUs that were signed during this school year regarding:

    • Changing the number of pay periods from 22 to 23

    • Allowing members to opt-in or opt-out of summer savings

    • Removing the unit beyond a BA requirement to qualify for placement on Column III on the salary schedule.

  • GDPSC offered a counter-proposal to the compensation proposal put forth by AMU on February 22, 2018

    • The offer amounted to what would be a decrease in compensation for our members

    • This is not acceptable and AMU provided another counter-proposal that demonstrated our desire to continue to bargain in good faith

    • Currently, AMU is awaiting a counter-proposal from GDPSC

As a reminder, GDPSC is projected to receive increased revenue for the 2018-2019 school year and the overall healthcare costs to the organization will decrease for 2018-2019.  Any compensation proposal that would result in a decrease in compensation for our members is unacceptable and we will continue to bargain for compensation that is fair for our members and sustainable for the organization.

Next steps for AMU members:

  • Please wear your AMU shirts, AMU pins and post your “I Support My Bargaining Committee” flyers on your doors!

  • Take pictures of your staff and send them to President@amuanimo.org or post on social media with the hashtag #IsupportAMUbargaining

Our next bargaining session is scheduled for Tuesday, March 20, 2018.

As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns to bargainingchair@amuanimo.org.

Regards,

Ben West
